About Sanshin Martial Arts Karate Guelph

Sanshin Martial Arts is a member of the Okinawa Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Association headed by grand master Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato, 10th Dan who currently resides in Okinawa, the birthplace of karate. Shugoro Nakazato is one of the most influential living karate Grand Masters. The North American Shorinkan president is Hanshi Doug Perry, the only person outside of Okinawa to ever be promoted to 9th Dan in a historical ceremony held in Nakazato's dojo on January 7, 2009! The vice president who oversees the Canadian Clubs is Kyoshi Pat Haley, 8th Dan, also a direct student of Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato and promoted at this ceremony.

In keeping with the teachings of our organization we instruct students in traditional Okinawan karate, striving to maintain its roots in their purest form. Kata has been passed down for centuries and instructors at Sanshin Martial Arts attend seminars throughout the year, training with Hanshi Perry and Kyoshi Haley to ensure we continue to maintain the integrity of the
Shorin-Ryu style.

We are also a member of the National Women's Martial Arts Federation, an organization dedicated to promoting martial arts and self defense training for women and girls.
