Shorin-Ryu Karate is the original karate system, tracing its lineage to Shaolin Temple in China.  It is from Shorin-Ryu that all other styles originated.

Sokon "Bushi" Matsumura

Collected and systemized the various forms of Te, the system eventually known as Shorin-Ryu was named after the Buddhist temple Shaolin in China




Yasutsune "Ankoh" Itotsu
1830-1915
Introduced the Pinan Kata
to the Okinawan public schools
in 1901




Chosin Chibana
1885-1969
The modern father of Shorin-Ryu Karate.  Differentiated the various styles in the Shorin-Ryu system.
Shugoro Nakazato was his top student


Hanshi Shugora Nakazato
The most influential living karate master.  On Chibana's death became the president of the Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Karate-do Kyokai. Promoted to
10th Dan in 1980


Kyoshi Pat Haley
Vice President of the North American Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan.
A direct student of Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato.  Trains regularly with Hanshi Nakazato in Naha, Okinawa and was promoted to 8th Dan by him in Jan 2009

Student of Kyoshi Pat Haley and head instructor at Sanshin Martial Arts and Bushido Kids Karate.
