Shorin-Ryu Karate is the original karate system, tracing its lineage to Shaolin Temple in China.  It is from Shorin-Ryu that all other styles originated.

Sokon "Bushi" Matsumura
1796-1893
Collected and systemized the various forms of Te, the system eventually known as Shorin-Ryu was named after the Buddhist temple Shaolin in China




Yasutsune "Ankoh" Itotsu
1830-1915
Introduced the Pinan Kata
to the Okinawan public schools
in 1901



Chosin Chibana
1885-1969
The modern father of Shorin-Ryu Karate.  Differentiated the various styles in the Shorin-Ryu system.
Shugoro Nakazato was his top student



Hanshi Shugora Nakazato
1919-2016
One of the most influential karate masters of our time.  On Chibana's death became the president of the Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Karate-do Kyokai. Promoted his son Minoru Nakazato to this role 2013



Hanshi Minoru Nakazato
President of the worldwide Okinawan Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan Karate-do Kyokai.  Son of Shugoro Nakazato. Resides in Okinawa, the birthplace of karate



Kyoshi Pat Haley

A direct student of Hanshi Shugoro Nakazato.  Trained regularly with Hanshi Nakazato and now his son Minoru Nakazato in Naha, Okinawa. Resides in
Chico, California




Renshi Sandy

Student of Kyoshi Pat Haley.
Renshi Sandy is the head instructor at Sanshin Martial Arts and Bushido Kids Karate.
Promoted to 5th Dan Renshi by Hanshi Minoru Nakazato in 2015.
